CUT KNURLING
Maximum precision and surface quality; it is even possible to knurl thin-walled workpieces with no deformation. Another advantage is the time saved due to the higher cutting speed and feed rate. Virtually any material can be machined, including grey cast iron and plastic. However, knurling to the shoulder of a workpiece is possible only to a limited extent.
FORM KNURLING
Processing of material by cold-forming. All knurling
profiles according to DIN 82 are possible and can be applied at any location on
the tool. Knurling all the way to the collar is no problem.
The surface of the workpiece is compressed by the forming process; the outer
diameter increases slightly. Form knurling in the case of thin-walled
workpieces and visible knurls is not generally recommended.

CUTTING OR FORMING?
Knurling technology is
divided into two processes: form knurling and cut knurling. Both processes have
their special applications, areas of utilisation and limitations. While one
advantage of form knurling is the simplified application of the technology, cut
knurling is always the preferred process whenever uncompromising surface
quality is required.
